In September, the annual NAR Sustainability Summit, held in Austin, TX, brought together leading sustainability speakers and guests who had diverse interests. 

Some were passionate about native plants, some wanted to enhance business sustainability and develop strategic plans, and others concentrated on addressing future housing needs.

Josh Dickinson, GREEN, took an indirect route to the real estate industry. It included getting a degree in environmental engineering and an MBA.
 
After stints in other careers, including academic fundraising and environmental engineering jobs focused on water issues, he realized he wanted something else: autonomy, work that aligned with his values, and a career where he could make an impact on improving the environment.

There is an old saying in business: always follow the money. These days, there’s a lot of money making its way into the proptech space through doors labeled “ESG,” “Climate Tech,” and “the Inflation Reduction Act.” In 2022, $195 Billion in equity transactions was invested in companies whose products and services address climate change. Globally, governments and investors have committed $1.1 Trillion to investments of various kinds to mitigate climate change.

The concept of electrifying everything has gained traction, and with the Inflation Reduction Act's incentives, it's likely to remain on clients' radar.
